Therapy for OCD and Anxious Patterns
Intrusive thoughts, checking, and the urge to get it exactly right can take up hours of a day. Therapy can help you understand the loop and loosen its grip.
OCD and Anxious Patterns
When Your Mind Gets Stuck on Repeat
Obsessive and anxious patterns often follow the same shape: a thought or doubt shows up, anxiety rises, and something is done to make the feeling go away. Checking the lock again. Asking for reassurance. Replaying a conversation. Mentally reviewing until it feels right. The relief is real, and it is short. Then the loop starts again.
Many people keep these patterns private because they feel embarrassed by them. You do not need to explain them perfectly to begin.
Common Patterns People Bring
- Unwanted thoughts that feel upsetting or out of character
- Checking, counting or repeating to feel safe
- Needing reassurance again and again
- Spending a long time on things so they feel just right
- Avoiding places or tasks that set the thoughts off
How Therapy Can Help
Crystal's training includes CBT and anxiety work, and therapy for these patterns may draw from CBT, ACT and mindfulness-based approaches. The focus is on noticing the loop as it happens, building tolerance for uncertainty, and making room for the life that the loop has been crowding out. The work moves at your pace and stays collaborative.
Why Reassurance Does Not Last
When a worry shows up, asking someone to confirm that everything is fine brings quick relief. The trouble is that the relief teaches your mind the worry was dangerous and needed fixing. The next time, the doubt comes back a little louder and the need for reassurance grows.
Therapy works with that cycle gently. Instead of arguing with every thought, you learn to notice it, let it be there and choose what you do next. Over time, the loop can start to lose some of its pull.
Working on It From Home
Sessions are held by secure telehealth for people located in Arizona or Oregon, which can make it easier to work on patterns that show up at home, like checking doors, appliances or messages. If you are not sure whether what you are dealing with is something Crystal works with, bring that question to the free 15-minute consultation. Rates are listed on the Fees page.
How to Begin
A free consultation of about 15 minutes comes first. Then an intake session, where the goals for treatment are set. After that, sessions are usually weekly for the first 6 to 8 weeks, then every 2, 3 or 4 weeks, and never less than once a month.
