Questions People Ask
Is It Anxiety or Depression, or Both?
Anxiety and depression are the two concerns people most often bring to therapy, and they are frequently tangled together. Knowing the difference can help you put words to what you feel.
Questions People Ask
Anxiety Tends to Feel Like Too Much
- Racing or looping thoughts, often about what could go wrong
- Feeling on edge, restless or keyed up
- Tight chest, fast heartbeat or trouble breathing deeply
- Avoiding things because of the dread around them
- Trouble falling asleep because your mind will not settle
Depression Tends to Feel Like Too Little
- Low mood, heaviness or numbness most days
- Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
- Low energy, even after rest
- Harsh thoughts about yourself
- Pulling away from people
Why They Often Come Together
Living with constant worry is exhausting, and exhaustion can slide into hopelessness. Depression can also make everyday tasks feel risky, which feeds anxiety. Many people feel both, or swing between them. You do not have to figure out the label before asking for help. Part of therapy is sorting out what is going on.

A Few Questions to Ask Yourself
- When I feel bad, is it mostly worry about what might happen, or heaviness about how things are?
- Do I avoid things because I dread them, or because I have no energy for them?
- Is my sleep broken up by a racing mind, or am I sleeping a lot and still tired?
- Have I lost interest in things I used to enjoy?
When to Reach Out
It is worth talking to someone when anxiety or low mood has lasted more than a couple of weeks, when it is affecting work, school or relationships, or when you notice yourself pulling away from people. You do not need to wait for it to get worse. Therapy starts with a free consultation of about 15 minutes and is held by secure telehealth anywhere in Arizona or Oregon.
If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 now.
What Sessions Can Look Like
Early sessions sort out what you are dealing with and what you want to change. From there, the work might include learning to catch anxious or harsh thoughts, rebuilding routines that lift energy, and practicing ways to settle your body. Individual sessions are $200, and the full list of rates is on the Fees page.
