How Secure Telehealth Therapy Works

Telehealth means your therapy session happens over a secure video connection, from wherever you have privacy. Here is what it takes and how to make it work well.

Questions People Ask

What You Need

  • A phone, tablet or computer with a camera
  • A steady internet connection
  • A private space where you will not be overheard
  • Headphones, if others are nearby
  • To be located in Arizona or Oregon at the time of your session

Why Location Matters

Crystal Boyd is licensed in Arizona and Oregon, so therapy sessions are for people who are physically in Arizona or Oregon when the session takes place.

Making the Space Feel Safe

Some people take sessions from a bedroom, a spare room or a parked car. Choose somewhere you can speak freely. Close other apps and silence notifications. A glass of water and a few minutes to settle before and after can make the session feel less rushed.

What People Like About It

No commute, no waiting room, and no need to rearrange a whole afternoon. Many people find it easier to open up from their own space. Many of the approaches Crystal draws on, including CBT, DBT skills, mindfulness and somatic practices, work well by video.

Before Your First Session

  • Test your camera and microphone
  • Charge your device or keep it plugged in
  • Find a spot with a door you can close, or use headphones
  • Let the people you live with know you need privacy
  • Plan what you will do if the connection drops, like rejoining right away

Every Kind of Session, by Video

Individual, couple, family and teen sessions can all be held by secure telehealth. For couples and families, a room where everyone can be seen and heard helps the session run smoothly. Individual sessions are $200 and couple or family sessions are $250, after an intake of $250 or $300.

Telehealth is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.

If Privacy Is Hard at Home

Not everyone has a quiet room. Some people use a parked car, a closet, a private office or a white noise app outside the door. Headphones help keep the other side of the conversation private. If privacy is a real challenge, mention it during the free consultation so you can plan together.
